Day
2
Old Moses Camp to Shipton’s Camp
Continue from Old Moses through the open moorland and higher alpine terrain toward Shipton’s Camp. The landscape changes noticeably as the trail approaches the upper mountain, with views toward Mount Kenya’s main peaks and the distinctive high-altitude vegetation. Shipton’s Camp provides the overnight base before the summit attempt. The day is steady and demanding, making a controlled pace, hydration and rest important.
Day
3
Shipton’s Camp to Point Lenana and Old Moses Camp
Begin the summit attempt in the early hours with the objective of reaching Point Lenana, the trekking summit of Mount Kenya, around sunrise. After the summit experience and time for photographs, descend toward Shipton’s Camp before continuing down through the mountain landscape to Old Moses Camp. This is the longest and most demanding day of the expedition, so the pace and summit attempt remain subject to weather, trail and individual mountain conditions.
Day
4
Old Moses Camp to Sirimon Gate and Nairobi
After breakfast, descend from Old Moses, through the forest toward Sirimon Gate. Complete the mountain exit formalities before meeting the transfer vehicle for the journey back toward Nairobi. When To Go
Best Time to Trek

January to March and June to October are commonly considered favourable periods. Mountain weather can change quickly, so conditions should always be considered when planning the trek.
Prepare For The Mountain
What to Pack
Essential items include sturdy trekking boots with good grip, comfortable trekking clothing, warm layers, a waterproof jacket and trousers, a warm hat, gloves, sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Carry a daypack for personal essentials, a reusable water bottle or hydration system, headlamp or torch with spare batteries, personal medication, basic toiletries and a small first-aid kit. A warm sleeping system suitable for high-altitude camping or mountain accommodation is recommended where applicable. Walking poles can also be useful, particularly on steep or uneven sections. Pack light while ensuring you have adequate protection against cold, wind, rain and strong mountain sun.
