Chogoria Route Mount Kenya: A Scenic Ascent
Narumoru route starts from the western side of the mountain, it climbs towards mackinders camp before joining the peak circuit path.
The terrain is usually good although during the rain season or immediately after the rain it is very challenging on a section known as vertical blog.
On these route you can either do camping or stay at the bunkhouses which are shared mostly during peak season. You can ascend through narumoru out chogoria, narumoru out sirimon and narumoru out narumoru.
What to Expect
Day 1: Nairobi To Narumoru Gate.
Morning drive from nairobi to narumoru gate which takes about 3and 1/2hrs to 4 hrs to narumoru gate where we have lunch at the gate. At the gate elevation is(2400masl). After lunch we start our walk for about 3 to 4 hrs to met station which is (3050m asl) via mixed rain forest. On the way you might see some monkeys,buffalos,water bucks. on arrival at the camp we will have tea and later dinner and spend a night
Day 2 : Met Station To Mackinders Camp
Wake up by 6:30am,pack your bags and come for breakfast. After breakfast we srart our walk of about 6hrs to mackinders camp which is (4300m asl) via the moorland and vertical blog with views of mountain vegitation. Lunch will be on the way then at the camp tea,dinner and spend a night.
Day 3: Mackinders To Shiptons
wake by 6:30am pack and come for breakfast,after breakfast we start a walk of about 4hrs to shiptons via two tarns,nanyuki tarn and up hausberg col which is (4600m asl) and down to shiptons camp which is (4200m asl). Have lunch then rest for the day. Later we have tea dinner and spend a night.
Day 4: Acclimatization
wake by 7:30am have breakfast.by 8:30am,we star a hike to simba col which is (4650m asl) for acclimatization with a great view of all the main peaks and later descend back to shiptons camp for lunch and the rest of the day. Later tea dinner and spend a night.
Day 5: Shiptons Up To The Summit(Point Lenana 4895m Asl) Then Down To Lake Ellis
Wake by 2:30am cloth warmly have tea or coffee and cookies and at aroud 3am we start our walk of about 3hrs to point lenana for the sun rise.after enjoying the views and taking pictures, we start walking down to mintos camp which is (4300m asl) and have main breakfast. Later we walk down for about 5hrs to lake ellis which is(3450m asl) with a view of lake michaelson and gorges valley. We have lunch at camp later dinner and spend a night.
Day 6: Lake Ellis To The Chogoria Gate Then To Nairobi
Wake by 7:00am have breakfast then walk down to chogoria gate via nithi fallsto connect with transfer vehicle to your next destination.ail.com
