Overview
Chogoria route is the most beautiful and scenic route on the mountain. It heads through the forest to the southeast of the mountain towards the moorlands, with the views over areas such as Giants Billards tabble mountain and Mugi hills. Following the gorges valley past the temple and up to simba col below point lenana.
On these route you can choose to climb through chogoria out sirimon,chogoria out narumoru or chogoria out chogoria.
These route is mainly camping.

What to Expect
Day 1 : Nairobi to Chogoria town 4 hours drive
Have lunch and after lunch we procced another 1 hr drive [22km] to mt kenya chogoria gate through mixed rain forest and bammboo forest,where we camp at the chogoria bandas which is [2950masl]. Have dinner and spend a night.
Day 2 : Chogoria gate to lake ellis
After having breakfast we start our walk which is about 7km around 4hrs walk towards lake ellis which is [3455masl]. It’s a short distance walk and will be at the camp in for lunch. Have a small break after lunch and then either we atempt to climb mugi hill which is good for aclimatization or we go to the nithi water falls then back for tea and later dinner a spend a night.
Day 3 : Lake ellis to mintos
Have an early morning breakfast and after breakfast we start our walk which is about 10kms [6hrs] walk up towards mintos through alpine and moorland zone. Note you should have atleast 3ltrs of drinkig water. At mintos which is [4300masl] will have tea and later dinner and spend a night.
Day 4 : Mintos to summit[point lenana 4985masl]
Wake at around 2am, cloth warmly have a cup of tea or coffee and some cookies. [note you should carry your warm sfaffs and rain gears with you on that morning] Afterwards we start 4kms walk to point lenana and try to catch up with sun rise. At point lenana on a clear day you can be able to see mt kilimanjaro to the south. After pictures we descend to shiptons [4200masl] camp for the main breakfast. After break fast we have a small break then we continue descending to oldmoses camp[3300masl] a 15kms walk. We might have lunch on the way or have it at oldmoses then later tea dinner and spend night.
Day 5 : Oldmoses to Nairobi
After breakfast we walk 9kms to sirimon gate and connect with transfer car to your next destination. NOTE chogoria out narumoru and chogoria out chogoria detailed itinerary provided on request.
